Nowadays, remote work has led various L.A. technology startups to seek new hires in Latin America, where they can find qualified people with an aligned time zone who will work for much lower pay.

In this case, Argentina has become steadily more appealing to those with dollars to spend due to their currency “Peso” which has lost a lot of its value and has been among the big underperformers of the past years.

Tomas Figueroa works from his home office in Argentina as a UI/UX for BX Venture

That is why when someone like Tomas Figueroa is hired by a Californian startup, the deal looks attractive for both sides.

The Argentine resident got a LinkedIn message from a Los Angeles staffing agency called Latamforce, asking if he had ever considered working for a U.S. firm. The 31-year-old said he had always been curious about the idea, but thought that there would be complex barriers to make this a reality. That turned out not to be the case, and within days he was working from his home as a UI/UX for a Californian-based startup called BX Venture.

Figueroa mentioned he’s aware that he is likely to be paid less in dollar terms than a U.S. hire would be, but it is still a good deal for him. He says his pay went up by about 50% when he switched jobs.

At the other end of the bargain, BX Venture is benefiting from lower-cost labor abroad, which is huge because currently U.S. businesses are being forced to raise wages because of inflationary pressures at home.

It is a win-win situation for the employee and employer.
