As the fight for talent becomes increasingly global, the City of Buenos Aires and its professionals were highlighted in a new ranking of cities with the best talent for working remotely.

This is a classification made by the digital platform for remote talent management, WorkMotion, in which Buenos Aires was chosen in first place in different categories.

“With 16% of companies globally offering the ability to work 100% remotely, this data study reveals which cities are best equipped for the ‘new normal’ of the world of work,” the company said.

The ranking was based on where the best remote talent can be found in different industries and how easy (or not) it is to hire remote employees in each location.

Ranking of the best cities for remote workers

With a 140% increase in the number of people working from home since 2005, the employability landscape has changed and remote work is part of the new normal, with talent having the ability to seek out high-paying remote jobs with foreign employers.

For the study, the availability and working conditions of six digital professions in which remote work is becoming more common most quickly were analyzed, and the results were divided between jr. and senior professionals.

Then, to consider which cities are leaders in facilitating their population to work remotely, the infrastructure of each of them was studied, and the compliance regulations for companies that are hiring local talent were factored, the number of workspaces (co-working) and the level of command of the English language, since it is most frequently used in business, programming and the management of distributed teams.

Finally, the salaries in those cities for each profession were compared. Initially, 200 metropolises were considered and the list was refined to 100 according to the reliability and comparability of the data. That is how the following results were obtained.

In the area of compliance, the score for Buenos Aires was 59 units, and it’s worth remembering that this ranking does not include one of the areas that are often highly valued by North American employers of remote workers, which is being in the same time zone as their home country.

Finally, the factor in which Buenos Aires scored negatively was the competitiveness of its salaries measured in dollars.

Infrastructure, outstanding debt

Since the pandemic began, we have witnessed a rapid increase in workers worldwide who embraced the opportunity to work from anywhere and an increase in competitive salaries for the best talent based abroad.

Governments, however, did little to capitalize on that opportunity, the platform noted. “It is essential that cities equip their local talent for the jobs of tomorrow. Cities need to cultivate an English-speaking, tech-savvy workforce through education and the development of infrastructure and co-working spaces,” they suggested.

In Argentina, the low quality of Internet connections and the poor development of connectivity options outside the big cities is usually a repeated complaint among remote workers. All this, in addition to the exchange difficulties to enter payments abroad without losing purchasing power.

Cities with a competitive workforce will now have access to the economic benefits of high-paying jobs through taxes without having to create the positions locally.

It is crucial that governments legislate with forward-thinking on compliance procedures, and ensure that it is easy for foreign companies to manage employees locally.

Overall, at Latamforce we look for many candidates in Argentina, offering an amazing opportunity to work with foreign businesses with the correct talent. Is this something you are interested in?
